Progress in the wind energy sector

AGEC has worked with planning consultants McCarthy Keville O’Sullivan Ltd to successfully secure planning permission for a wind farm in the townlands of Cloncreen in County Offaly. The wind farm comprises 21 no. turbines with a maximum turbine height of 170m, access tracks, anemometry mast, borrow pit and associated site works.

The site has been extensively harvested using mechanical harvesting equipment and the peat previously extracted from the area was used in a nearby electricity generation facility. The site is now being developed further by Bord na Móna. The wind farm will have a generating capacity of 70MW and will provide sufficient renewable energy to power circa 30,000 households annually.
