Gaining Ground in Wind Energy

AGEC has worked with planning consultants McCarthy Keville O’Sullivan Ltd to recently secure planning permission for Meenbog wind farm in county Donegal. The development will comprise 19 no. wind turbines with a generating capacity of more than 50MW. The development will also include recreation and amenity areas including marked trails, car parks, picnic and play areas.

Ireland appears to be struggling to meet the 2020 EU target for renewable energy as well as the longer-term movement away from fossil fuels. The proposed Meenbog wind farm is a step in the right direction in helping Ireland address these challenges.

AGEC was involved in all geotechnical aspects of the development at planning stage including an assessment of peat stability, devising an appropriate peat and spoil management plan, outline design of on-site borrow pits, developing a construction methodology suitable for the anticipated ground conditions and providing supporting information for the environmental impact assessment submission.
