Geotechnical Designers for Oweninny Wind Farm (Phase 1)

AGEC are currently engaged by Roadbridge to carry out the geotechnical design for Oweninney wind farm which is located in Bellacorick, Co. Mayo. Phase 1 of the project is currently under construction and comprises 29 no. turbines with a total capacity upon completion of in excess of 80MW.

The history of the Oweninny site is closely linked to the adjacent power station at Bellacorick. The site was previously used as a fuel source for the peat fired power station.

In addition to the remaining deposits of peat, challenging ground conditions are present across the site with varying thicknesses of soft and loose silt deposits. AGEC are providing innovative and constructible solutions to allow the contractor to progress with works in the difficult ground conditions.

AGEC are responsible for all geotechnical aspects of the project including the design of access tracks, hardstandings, gravity turbine bases, piling platforms and other infrastructure foundations.

In addition to design services, AGEC have undertaken regular site inspections, carried out geotechnical risk assessments and provided geotechnical approval certificates for completed infrastructure elements.
